Compound Fills Lesson:
These were born out of trying to come up
with fills that sound as electronic as humanly possible. Fills that
maybe only your drum machine could play- we all had our little Casio
keyboards at one point or another and I'm sure we all took the "Bossa
Nova" patch and sped it up to 220bpm just for laughs! I know
that I did! Anyway, that's the sound that we are trying to achieve.
Something that's cool but sounds a lot more bizarre than it is.
Terry Bozzio was the first guy I saw do these types of fills. He
did them more in a funk element, which is really cool as well!

Techno Hand/Foot Overlap Fills - Lesson
By: Tobias Ralph
These are fills that deal with hand/foot overlaps (i.e. Terry Bozzio).
These fills work great in Drum'N'Bass or House genres of music.
The idea is to get them to sound as "machine like" as
humanly possible. Make sure all of the notes are played at the same
dynamic level. Wherever you see a R/L or L/R, it means that the
hands fall together.
